Loopy Edge Cast On
A cast on with a row of loops along the edge.
4 min videoGood for decorative edges
The loopy edge cast on puts a row of little loops along the bottom of your work. It is a variation of the Tilly Buddy stretchy cast on for ribbing, worked with two needles from a slip knot, and each pass casts on two stitches at once.
It makes a fun, lacy detail along the edge and it is nice and stretchy, so it works with ribbing, with plain stockinette, or with garter stitch. It is a decorative cast on first, and a stretchy one second.
Because the stitches come in pairs, you may land one short of an odd count. Finish with a knitted on stitch or a thumb loop.

1 Set the needles side by side
Put a slip knot on the main needle and hold the working needle right next to it, tip to tip.

2 Wrap both needles
Take the working yarn over the top of the main needle, then bring it back around and over the top of the working needle.

3 Pull through and slip it over
Pull that wrap through with the working needle, give it a little slack, and slip the loop onto the main needle so it comes up from beneath. That is two stitches cast on at once.

4 Then keep going
Put the working needle back next to the last stitch, yarn over the main needle, around the working needle, pull through, and slip the loop onto the main needle. Each pass adds two stitches and one loop along the edge.

5 Add a last stitch if you need one
Because each pass makes two stitches, you may end up one short of an odd count. Add the last one as a knitted on stitch or a thumb loop.
