Decorative Cast Ons
An edge that is part of the design.
Sometimes the edge is the point. These cast ons leave something to look at: a row of loops, an i-cord running along the bottom, the knotted edge of a gansey, or the braid of the Chinese waitress cast on, which is the same on both sides.
They take longer than a plain cast on and they are worth it on the pieces where the edge shows: blankets, scarves, the hem of a cardigan. Most of them have a bind off that matches, so the two ends of a piece can look the same.
